In 1918, Europe is ravaged by the First World War. In Finland, civil war is raging. The social-democrat "Reds" are fighting against the "Whites", the forces of the conservative Senate. When Private Aaro Harjula returns from Germany, he rejoins the official troops, but he quickly discovers savage raping and summary executions. His faith is shaken. By chance he comes into contact with a female revolutionary. His life is turned upside down.
