Only a few weeks before the end of the Second World War, the German soldier Willi Herold is chased by a group of drunken compatriots. After escaping he finds an officer's uniform in a military vehicle. Disguised as 'Hauptmann Herold' he collects soldiers to carry out an imaginary task that he personally received from Hitler himself.
